Masters Graduate in Limerick
Tuam Masters Swimming Club recently took part in the Limerick International Masters Long Course Gala, at the University of Limerick 50 metre pool, with teams competing from Belfast, Scotland and Italy. It turned out to be a very successful day for the Tuam Swimming Club, who proudly brought home eight medals. John Craddock got the team of to a promising start by winning gold in the 100m back stroke. Martin Macken added the silver in the same event and followed this up by taking bronze in the 50m backstroke. Cathy Higgins from Claremorris also won a bronze model in the 100m backstroke.
John Joe Higgins and Brendan Lee both won silver medals in the 100m backstroke in their respective age groups. John Joe, who has started to gather an impressive haul of medals in the last 2 years, finished of the day taking silver in the 200m front crawl.
It was an excellent day for Gina Concanon, especially as this was Gina’s first gala. It was great to see her take silver in the 50 metres backstroke and bronze in the 200m front crawl.
A number of other club members took part in the Limerick Gala for the first time and swam very well, recording very credible Personal Best times along the way. These were Daragh McShane, Mer Lulling and Angela Collins.
Tuam Masters Swimming Club run a training session at the Aura swimming pool on Sunday nights from 8:00 until 9:00 with two qualified instructors. These sessions are suitable for swimmers of all abilities, intending to improve both therir fitness and stroke technique, not just those intending to compete in galas.
